The African National Congress (ANC)
retained its seat in the by-elections held in the Eastern Cape, while the
Patriotic Alliance (PA) won a seat in Gauteng and the Democratic Alliance
retained its seat in ward 99. In KwaZulu Natal, the ANC won a seat in
uPhongolo, while the Umkhonto Wesizwe (MK) party won in KwaDukuza. In Limpopo,
the ANC retained its seat.
The new Councillors are:
Eastern Cape
- Mfundo
Genu, in ward 13 in the Intsika Yethu Municipality, EC135.
The party won the seat with 83.08% of the total votes cast. Voter
turnout was 42.04%. The seat was previously won by the ANC in the 2021
Local Government Elections.
Gauteng
- Beverley
Marilyne Smouse of the PA, in ward 82 in the City of Johannesburg Municipality, JHB.
The party won the seat with 41.71% of the total votes cast. Voter
turnout was 27.07%. The seat was previously won by the DA in the 2021
Local Government Elections.
- Hendrik
Bodenstein of the DA, in ward 99 in the City of Johannesburg Municipality, JHB.
The party won the seat with 98.09% of the total votes cast. Voter
turnout was 24.22%. The seat was previously won by the DA in the 2021
Local Government Elections.
KwaZulu-Natal

Ntokozo Radebe of the ANC, in ward 12 in the uPhongolo Municipality, KZN262.
The party won the seat with 40.01% of the total votes cast. Voter
turnout was 52.79%. The seat was previously won by the Inkatha Freedom
Party (IFP) in the 2021 Local Government Elections.

Govender of the MK, in ward 28 in the KwaDukuza Municipality, KZN292.
The party won the seat with 62.25% of the total votes cast. Voter
turnout was 59.50%. The seat was previously won by the ANC in the 2021
Local Government Elections.
Limpopo
- Khumbudzo
Madzhini of the ANC, in ward 09 in the Limpopo Municipality, LIM344.
The party won the seat with 65.68% of the total votes cast. Voter
turnout was 36.68%. The seat was previously won by the ANC in the 2021
Local Government Elections.
