Voter registration this weekend for Municipal By-elections to be contested on 4 December 2024 in Thabazimbi Municipality

  Published: Oct 16, 2024

The Electoral Commission is pleased to announce its readiness to register eligible voters this coming weekend in Thabazimbi Local Municipality, Limpopo Province. The registration weekend is taking place in preparation for by-elections scheduled to take place on Wednesday, 4 December 2024. Voting stations in the ward listed below will be open this Saturday, 19 October 2024, and Sunday, 20 October 2024, from 08h00 to 17h00 to allow all eligible voters to register and for current voters to check their registration details, and to provide/update address details where necessary.

The Thabazimbi municipal by-elections are being held against the backdrop of the municipality's dissolution by the Provincial Executive Committee with the concurrence of National Council of Provinces and the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs. The Municipality is made up of 12 wards, with a total of 57 voting districts. Voter registration will be held in all 12 wards.

The Commission encourages community members in Thabazimbi Local Municipality to register for voting. It is critical to emphasise that municipal by-elections are fundamental to South Africa’s democracy. Community participation in electoral processes allows eligible voters to be part of the decision making, and elect the councillors who will represent their interests in the municipal council.

Voters should bring along their identity documents (ID) with them – either a green barcoded ID book, a smartcard ID, or a valid temporary ID certificate. They will also need to complete their physical home address on registration or provide sufficient particularities of their place of residence. Documented proof of address (e.g. a municipal account) is not required.

Voters can also check and update their details at their local (municipal) Electoral Commission (IEC) office weekdays during office hours, or online at https://registertovote.elections.org.za

NB! Voters are reminded that it is a criminal offence to register and vote in a ward in which they are not ordinarily resident.

Registration and voting will take place at the following voting stations:

  • Ward 01: Waterberg TVET College Thabazimbi Campus; Sekgweng Primary School; Canterbury Tent; Groenvlei Secondary School; Kaaldraai Tent; Zimthabi Lodge; Rabogale Primary School; Tent at Sekelbos Kontant Winkel; Heuningvlei Primary School; Kesarona Primary School; Doornhoek Tent.
