Results of Gauteng and the North West Municipal By-Elections held yesterday, 23 May 2018

During the by-elections contested yesterday in Gauteng and the North West provinces, the Democratic Alliance (DA) retained the two seats won in the 2016 Municipal Elections.

The new councillors for the DA are:
• Sonja Meyer in Ward 85 in the City of Johannesburg – JHB. The party retained the seat it won in the 2016 Municipal Elections with an increased margin of 75.60% of the votes cast compared to 73.93% in the 2016 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 26.64%. 

• Martha Fransiena Elizabetha Lerm in Ward 18 in the Rustenburg Municipality – NW373. The party retained the seat it won in the 2016 Municipal Elections, however with a slightly reduced margin of 71.68% of the votes cast compared to 78.03% in the 2016 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 22.60%.
