Results of the Municipal By-Elections held on 11 April 2018

The African National Congress (ANC) and Democratic Alliance (DA) retained both the wards that they had won in the 2016 Municipal Elections during the by-elections contested yesterday, 11 April 2018, in the Eastern Cape and Limpopo.  

• Julian Jansen is the new councillor in Ward 2 of Kou-Kamma Municipality – EC109 for the DA. The party retained the seat it won in the 2016 Municipal Elections with a lesser margin of 55.80% of the votes cast compared to 60.50% in the 2016 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout was 59.32% compared to 65.46% in the 2016 Municipal Elections.

• Lesibana Petrus Maloba is the new councillor in Ward 16 of Mogalakwena Municipality – LIM367 for the ANC. The party retained the seat it won in the 2016 Municipal Elections, however with a lesser margin of 43.53% of votes cast compared to 44.64% in the 2016 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout was 31.24% compared to 39.63% in the 2016 Municipal Elections.
