During the by-elections contested yesterday in the North West and Northern Cape, both the African National Congress (ANC) and the Democratic Alliance (DA) retained their seats.
The new councillor for the ANC is Tshepo Confidence Khumalo in Ward 21 in Moses Kotane Municipality – NW375. The party retained the seat it won in the 2016 Municipal Elections with a reduced margin of 63.56% of the votes cast compared to 69.66% in the 2016 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 50.85%.
The new councillor for the DA is Lemfvia Christiana van Niekerk in Ward 4 in Siyancuma Municipality – NC078. The party retained the seat it won in the 2016 Municipal Elections with an increased margin of 50.63% of the votes cast compared to 43.82% in the 2016 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 63.78%.
