Results of the Municipal By-Elections held on 20 June 2018

During the by-elections contested yesterday in the Eastern Cape and Mpumalanga provinces, the African National Congress (ANC) retained their seats won during the 2016 Municipal Elections.

The new councillor for the ANC is Nicholas Nqabeni James in Ward 6 in EmalahlenI Municipality – EC136 (Eastern Cape). The party retained the seat it won in the 2016 Municipal Elections, with a decreased margin of 86.53% of the votes cast compared to 94.07% in the 2016 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 51.17%. 

The new councillor for the ANC is Sabelo Tears Mkhabela in Ward 5 in Bushbuckridge Municipality – MP325 (Mpumalanga). The party retained the seat it won in the 2016 Municipal Elections, with a decreased margin of 70.66% of the votes cast compared to 88.51% in the 2016 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 41.47%.
