The Electoral Commission (IEC) has requested the Member of Executive Council (MEC) responsible for Local Government in Kwazulu-Natal to postpone voting day for a by-election in respect of ward 4 in the Jozini Municipality (KZN272). This by-election resulted from the expulsion of the then incumbent councillor by the MEC. The immediate implication of this request by the Commission is that the by-election that was scheduled in ward 4 Jozini for Wednesday, 22 May 2013 will no longer proceed.
The Electoral Commission is investigating possible irregularities in the registration of voters that was brought to its attention by political role players in the municipality. This investigation is, of necessity, complex and requires sufficient time. It will thus not be possible to conclude this investigation by Wednesday, 22 May 2013.
It is, accordingly brought to the attention of voters registered in this ward that no voting will take place on Wednesday, 22 May 2013 at the following voting stations:
