Candidates contesting the municipal by-elections scheduled for 15 February 2012

Municipal ward by-elections will take place in the Free State, Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo on Wednesday, 15 February 2012.

A total of seven (7) vacant wards will be contested by 24 candidates of whom one is an independent candidate and the rest represent nine (9) political parties.

One ward is uncontested. Seipati Suzan Mofokeng is the only candidate in Ward 9 in Metsimaholo [Sasolburg] – FS204 in the Free State.
The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and became vacant due to the death of the councillor.

Two by-elections will take place in Gauteng:
• Ward 28 in Tshwane Metro [Pretoria] Municipality – TSH will be contested by Moyagabo Linky Siwelane of the African Christian Democratic Party; Rebone Mothoalo Henry Mokgothadi of the African National Congress; Vusumzi Abel Zuma of the Christian Democratic Party; Landrus Lebea Thoka of the Congress of the People; and Gift Sipho Mashabane of the Democratic Alliance.
The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and became vacant due to the resignation of the councillor.

• Ward 80 in Tshwane Metro [Pretoria] Municipality – TSH will be contested by Albertus Johannes Hendrikus Du Plessis of the African Christian Democratic Party; Cameron Brighton Ngwenya of the African National Congress; Thabiso Euglete Masete of the Congress of the People; and Phuti Kwenaite of the Democratic Alliance.
The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and became vacant due to the resignation of the councillor.

One by-election will take place in KwaZulu-Natal:
• Ward 13 in Ulundi [Ulundi] Municipality – KZN266 will be contested by Peter Wolff Meyer, an independent candidate; Josias Qedie Qwabe of the African National Congress; Sindisiwe Khumalo of the Inkatha Freedom Party; and Cebolenkosi Tholinhlanhla Gabela of the National Freedom Party.
The ward was previously represented by the Inkatha Freedom Party and became vacant due to the death of the councillor.

Three by-elections will take place in Limpopo, all of them in Polokwane [Pietersburg] – LIM354:
• Ward 17 in Polokwane [Pietersburg] Municipality will be contested by Resimate Daniel Senyolo of the African Christian Democratic Party; Matlou Melica Mabitsela of the African National Congress; Mmamootele Rosinah Lediga of the Azanian People’s Organisation; and Kgomonala Mathabatha Madiba of the Congress of the People.
The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and became vacant due to the resignation of the councillor.

• Ward 20 in Polokwane [Pietersburg] Municipality will be contested by Thorisho Naledi Hellen Shai of the African National Congress; Valetine Nkoana of the Congress of the People; Evelyn Rayne Wilson of the Democratic Alliance; and Pieter Lourens Van Jaarsveld of the Vryheidsfront Plus.
The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and became vacant due to the resignation of the councillor.

• Ward 36 in Polokwane [Pietersburg] Municipality will be contested by Tlou Martha Mabutla of the African National Congress; and Dimakatjo Margaret Ngoetsana of the Congress of the People.
The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and became vacant due to the resignation of the councillor.

Voting stations will be open from 07h00 to 21h00. A total of 49 388 voters are registered in the seven wards and 26 voting districts where by-elections will be taking place.
